(eng)aging! 2023

The goal of the (eng)aging! project is to increase public awareness about the topic of population aging and to create a platform bringing together the Central European stakeholders dealing with population aging.

Population aging is a worldwide phenomenon that the economically developed countries have to face in particular. The trends that have been evident in Japan for more than two decades have arrived in Europe. The average life expectancy is constantly growing and the number of births is below the population replacement level. In the long term this development could have negative impacts on the economies of European states as well as their societies. Through a series of discussions the (eng)aging! project aims to highlight these problems, stimulate a constructive discussion and help to create conditions that will make use of the demographic change for the benefit of societies.

In terms of demographic change, Central Europe is one of the regions with the most negative outlook. The increasing median age of the population and the simultaneous strong decline of the working age population will bring about a burden on the social system. Unless Central European states start preparing for this change immediately, they will face its dire consequences.

The project organizes an annual international conference about different aspects of population aging and demographic change. The project succeeds to involve various stakeholders locally and internationally – international organizations (V4, WHO, OECD, UNECE, EU), demographic societies, national ministries and governmental institutions with the agenda of aging, population health and migration, entrepreneurs applying age management; representatives of employers’ associations, journalists, academics and students.

6th International Conference on Aging & Technology Fair (June 19–20, 2023, Prague & ONLINE) will take place as an in-person meeting in Česká Spořitelna Palace in Prague (Rytířská 29, Praha 1) and all presenters attended physically onsite. The conference & technology fair will be also streamed live. At the Technology Fair (associated event of the conference – see info below), technological products and innovations focused on older persons and their specific needs were presented.
